AREMA
endorses use of natural refrigerants in appropriate equipment and supports natural refrigerants training courses
AREMA members have agreed on a statement endorsing the use of natural (low
Global Warming Potential - GWP) refrigerants in equipment designed for
them.
AREMA is lobbying
for certification of a national natural refrigerants training course
and for tradesman's Commonwealth ARCtick refrigerant handling licence to
include endorsement of natural refrigerant handling competencies.
AREMA members helped design the curriculum of the existing NSW
course.

Awards for Australia's most efficient airconditioner
The awards for the most efficient single phase and 3 phase airconditioners

by the Hon Peter Garrett AM MP, Minister for the Environment, Heritage and
the Arts at the AREMA Awards night dinner on 12 November 2009.
The winning models were
Single phase - Fujitsu ASTA09LFC
Three phase - Daikin FCQ100KVEA/RZQ100HY4A

Queensland
and South Australia introduce different state based MEPS for airconditioners
Both states
gazetted their own different regulations to be enforced through building
regulations which mandate energy efficiency levels higher then the
Commonwealth MEPS levels. While the state levels are not
significantly different to the Commonwealth MEPS levels, they add
considerable administrative burden to the national airconditioner
market. AREMA is opposed to the regulations. They target
unwitting consumers rather than retailers and installers and will achieve
little in the way of greenhouse emissions reductions.

AREMA
supports inclusion of HFC refrigerant gases under the Montreal
protocol.
In the absence pf action under
the CPRS, AREMA wants the government to start the process of phasing out the class of
high Global Warming Potential refrigeration gases known as
HFCs by supporting their inclusion under the Montreal Protocol (MP).
The government is yet announce its support for the proposal.
Ozone damaging refrigeration gases, CFCs and HCFCs are already being
phased out under the MP.
